It's almost the end of the year and life has become rather challenging.  Both W and I had surgery in the past month and we've been terribly busy with school.  We've had a small amount of time to experiment with a few things and decided to try making our own laundry detergent.  I'd been saving bottles for a while.  We usually buy a case of Ecover Laundry 100 oz bottles for $45 through the local coop and I was hoping to save some money.  We make the recipe below and have been quite happy with the result. W just figured out that the same case cost us all of $3.91!   Pretty amazing.

Earth Friendly (Homemade) Laundry Detergent

½ cup washing soda

1 cup borax

1 bar castile soap

---------------------

Put in 5 gallon tub and add 3 gallons hot tap water and stir.

Shave 1 bar of soap and put in large saucepan with 6 cups warm water.  Heat on medium until soap is dissolved then add to tub and stir.

Let sit overnight.  The next day stir with whisk.  It will be a little gelatinous. Use ½ cup of mixture per load of laundry.
